Dr. Cletus D’Souza, Director of Research at InspireHealth, holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Louisiana State University Medical Center. He completed a Senior Postdoctoral Fellowship program at the Duke University Medical Center and was a Research Associate at the University of British Columbia. His interest in the genomics of chronic diseases lead him to the position of Staff Scientist at the Genome Sciences Centre, BC Cancer Agency, Vancouver, where he was responsible for a project investigating gene expression in the mammalian brain with the goal of designing region-targeted gene therapy vectors for neurological disorders like Alzheimer, Parkinson etc. Dr. D’Souza has published several articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and strongly values the importance of evidence-based integrative cancer care strategies.
Dr. D’Souza started as Director of Research at InspireHealth on February 1, 2011. He supports all research needs and endeavors of the organization that currently include management of clinical trials, maintenance of the Research Information System database of cancer literature, and publication of the monthly Research Updates. Research Updates is one of the ways in which we raise awareness within the health care community and the general public about the latest research in integrated cancer care.
Dr. D’Souza believes that a balanced lifestyle with proper diet, exercise and stress management is pivotal to prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. He is very interested in the role of phytochemicals, naturally occurring plant compounds, in halting inflammation and thereby staving off chronic diseases. One of his current projects involves investigating the efficacy of vitamin D in management of late stage colorectal cancer.
