Chemo Project – The Superhero
June 4, 2015
“I’ve always dreamt of being a superhero – who hasn’t as a child? The thought of being faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings at a single bound appeal to my inner child! But, on October 17, 2014, my super hero dreams took a turn when I was diagnosed with Stage 3C colon cancer.
During the 6 weeks I was healing from surgery it was a time for deep reflection and decision-making – I could give in, turn to the negative or I could find my inner super hero and fight the biggest fight of my life to date! I chose to fight. I may not be leaping tall buildings with a single bound or catching thieves just like flies, but I am using my superhero strength to stay positive and do the best I can each day to keep up the good fight!
Just before my chemo regiment began I joined InspireHealth. Batman has Robin, Clark Kent has Lois Lane and I have InspireHealth. Every great super hero needs support and I found that support in InspireHealth. Through education in proper nutrition, exercise, acupuncture, yoga and all the other InspireHealth programs I have kept strong both emotionally and physically throughout my journey.
So, as I continue on my journey you will occasionally see me in my superhero costume for no other reason than to feel great, to feel strong, and put a smile on the faces of my friends fighting this battle, too.”
