SUMMARY:BRCA Support BC: Removing the Tubes First – The New Frontier in Ovarian Cancer Prevention?
DESCRIPTION:Session Overview: \nResearch into ovarian cancer prevention is evolving rapidly. This session brings together two leading experts to explore the growing interest in “removing the tubes first” (opportunistic salpingectomy) as a strategy for risk reduction. \nDr. Hanley will present early evidence from her research on opportunistic salpingectomy\, and Dr. Kwon will share insights and updates from two major international trials looking at salpingectomy (tube removal) with delayed oophorectomy (ovary removal) for high-risk women\, including TUBA-WISP-II and SoROCk. The session will be followed by an optional small focus group for a maximum of 10 participants\, hosted by the Hanley Lab. Registration for the focus group is handled separately from the session sign-up. Details to follow. \nKey Topics: \n\nOpportunistic Salpingectomy: What it is and current research findings showing for long-term ovarian cancer risk.\nInternational Trials at UBC: Updates from TUBA-WISP-II and SoROCk.\nComparing Approaches: Timing and considerations for different surgical ovarian cancer prevention options based on your personal risk background.\nFocus Group: Special follow-up session for deeper discussion.\nQ&A: Engage with the experts.\n\nSpeaker:\nDr. Gillian Hanley\, UBC – Researcher on opportunistic salpingectomy (confirmed)\nDr. Janice Kwon\, UBC\, Chair of the National BRCA Coalition – TUBA-WISP-II and SoROCk studies (confirmed)\nSabrina Lloyd Ellis\, UBC Masters Student – Hanley Lab Focus Group \nRegistration is now closed
