SUMMARY:BE-FIT: Movement for Life After Breast Cancer (Summer Series Cohort #2)
DESCRIPTION:BE-FIT is an evidence-based\, movement-focused virtual program developed by leading researchers at the University of British Columbia (UBC). It’s designed to help women build strength\, improve fitness\, and manage treatment-related side effects after a diagnosis of breast cancer. \nDates:\n \nTuesdays & Thursdays\, 3:30 PM–4:45 PM | July 14 – September 3 \n  \nProgram details:\nBE-FIT is an 8-week virtual group program that includes: \n\nTwo weekly 75-minute sessions combining circuit-style movements to build strength\, plus a short education component. These sessions are delivered by one of our clinical exercise physiologists.\nTwo optional 60-minute group education sessions with a registered dietitian experienced in cancer care\n\nWho is best suited for BE-FIT? \n\nPatients who are newer to InspireHealth or haven’t participated in many of our exercise programs.\nIndividuals who have:\n\nCompleted primary breast cancer treatment (e.g.\, surgery\, radiation\, chemotherapy) and\nCurrently taking endocrine therapy (e.g.\, letrozole\, tamoxifen)\, or are experiencing ongoing side effects\, such as fatigue\, muscle or joint pain\, difficulty sleeping\, mood changes\, hot flashes\, and more.\n\n\n\nWhy join BE-FIT? \nResearch shows that exercise can have many benefits for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. BE-FIT has been shown to: \n\nImprove physical function and strength\nReduce cancer-related symptoms and fatigue\nEnhance quality of life\n\nThe program also provides: \n\nOpportunities for connection and community\nFlexibility to participate online from the comfort of your home\n\nBecause the program is developed and tested by UBC researchers and led by qualified exercise and nutrition professionals\, you can feel confident you’re getting a safe\, effective\, and evidence-based information. \nIf you’re interested in joining BE-FIT\, please complete the Interest Form linked below. SUMMARY:Breast Cancer Rehabilitation Education Session
DESCRIPTION:This session provides information and techniques for managing common concerns that may occur after treatment for breast cancer including radiation fibrosis\, axillary cording\, shoulder dysfunction and lymphedema. It will also touch on pacing for pain and fatigue. Hosted by Janet Sprague\, a physiotherapist and certified lymphedema therapist in Vancouver. \nThis session is open to individuals with a cancer diagnosis and their support network. \nRegistration closes at 3:00 pm PT the business day prior to the class date.
