BRCA Support BC: Managing the financial, practical, and legal aspects of hereditary cancer risk
June 19, 2025 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

For those living with a hereditary cancer risk, such as carrying a BRCA mutation, the challenges extend beyond health concerns. This session, led by Jordan Sam, an expert in genomics research, will explore the financial, practical, and legal aspects of managing hereditary cancer risk.
Jordan will share findings from the Canada-wide National Indirect Impacts Study, which looks at the hidden costs of living with hereditary cancer risks. These include out-of-pocket expenses, travel costs for medical care, and the impact on work and income. He will also discuss the Genetic Non-Discrimination Act (GNA) and how it protects against genetic discrimination, a crucial concern for many BRCA carriers. You’ll learn about your rights under this law and how to navigate potential issues related to genetic testing and insurance.
Registration closes at 3:00 pm PT the business day prior to the class date.
